Elizabeth Friedrich:“Because Every Woman is Special”
Elizabeth Friedrich-Sargsyan was born in the former Soviet Republic of Armenia and begun her creative work at a very early age. She studied at the Mesrop Mashtots University of the Arts and received a diploma from the National Center of Aesthetics. In 2002, she earned a top award as a painter/designer in Armenia and, soon after, she was awarded with a top prize in a national talent competition. Proudly, she was given an honorary membership for her outstanding contribution to the development of the World League of Beauty and Fashion. She participated, as a member of jury, in the Miss World League 2013 and has opened her first fashion boutique and fashion establishment, in Limassol, Cyprus.
Elizabeth has participated in several fashion shows in Europe and in countries of the former USSR; representing her innovative, haute couture clothing as well as her shoes and accessories collections. 2015 marked the year when the Elizabeth Friedrich line/ brand was launched as a franchise in Europe, the Middle East and in Los Angeles. For 2017, she has been invited to participate in the internationally acclaimed Royal Fashion Days event and has plans to create several major corporate gala events representing her latest fashion designs, while offering support to various charities.
The incredibly feminine Elizabeth Friedrich line is directed at the sophisticated woman, whose appearance embodies her true consciousness and distinctive appeal. Bold, brave and one-of-a-kind, her clothing line is not affected by fashion trends, compelling women who wear her fashion pieces to attract the attention that they deserve.
Please give us an over-view of your design career.
Starting from a young age, I would love to draw and write stories, describing how my heroes would be dressed. I loved to watch a particular TV programme communicating art to children my age. I eventually completed two university Art & Fashion Design courses, which led to the opening of my first fashion house in Yerevan.
What inspires your creations and stimulates your passion for design?
Essentially, music. I often have vivid night dreams that trigger my inspiration. My ideas can come from people-gazing or watching a beautiful elegant woman or couple. They come from all places, including restaurants and private functions. I isolate my mind and create a new design on the spot. My designs reflect my passion to create and my energetic desire to discover innovation in design.
You have a unique technique with paints. How is this process applied?
I never plan my creations because there’s no strategy. Painting on fabrics comes from the heart and expresses my feelings at that time. Each creation is a new piece and it’s not my style to paint from a photo or image. Although I have worked on private commissions from an image provided by a client, I translate the image, influenced by my own vision, and express it in my very own art form.
Your creations appeal to the feminine female. What best describes your designs?
I aspire to the symbolic effect of graceful elegance, excellence and sheer luxury. Through my creations, I want a woman to feel individual, powerful and self-confident and to reflect independence and inner natural beauty. I love the idea that, wherever she will go, no one will have the same dress, t-shirt or shoes. I experience a deep feeling of satisfaction if my design has made a woman feel special.
What has been your greatest design achievement?
I never stop creating and imagining. I am also very critical of myself, in a positive sense. I have boundless ideas, with new ones coming all the time and any time. Each design has been my greatest, aiming for the next one to be even greater!
I am averse to ‘copying’ in the fashion design world. Designers and artists should create original material and unique pieces and aim to bring something new to the industry by branding their own personal style, without imitation. I have great respect for designers who aim to change set standards and perceived images. Just a small change can make an impact and change history.
You have successfully created major events representing your designs, combined with vital fund-raising. Please tell us about your plans with your forthcoming corporate event, “Explosion”?
The next major event with be on March 15th, at ETKO Winery in Limassol. It will be an explosive fashion charity extravaganza, hence the theme name ‘Explosion’, reflecting devastating global tragedies that are happening even today! It will be a theatrical gala performance (“one day, one message and one goal”), inspiring and uniting people across the world, in an effort to make a difference by doing something, even small, for our planet. There will be many surprises and a special after-party, with the Breeze Group and tunes from the famous DJ from Dubai, “MadJam”. I am sure that the guests will enjoy the whole experience and leave with positive emotions, hope and faith for a safer planet.
