Dubai City of Tomorrow
Dubai is a tourist jewel of the Middle East and, perhaps, the most chic and ultra-modern city of the region. Dubai harmoniously combines ancient mosques with the imposing and ultra-modern designs of its skyscrapers of glass and steel. The meandering quiet streets, pristine highways, sandy beaches, fashionable boutiques, camel rides and car racing facilities make Dubai a destination like no other.
The city, which grew out of two villages (Deira on the north-eastern shore of the bay and Bur Dubai to the south-west), received the status of an independent emirate in 1833. The ruler of the emirate, Sheikh Rashid, decided to turn it into the capital of the most famous, fashionable and beautiful place on Earth. To realize his dream, he gathered the best architects in the world, allowing the city to realise some of the most unusual and extraordinary ideas ever witnessed. Dubai is often called the city of tomorrow. Here, everything is literally amazing. Local beaches, hotels, towers, office buildings, fountains and shopping centres have no equal in any state.
One of the most captivating and awe-inspiring sites of the city is the tallest building in the world – the 828-metre Burj Khalifa. On the 124th floor of this skyscraper, there is the world”s highest observation deck, with stunning views to create lasting memories.
At the foot of the tower, architects and engineers have created the world”s highest dancing musical fountain, with a height of 150 m. The Dubai Fountain can lift into the air up to 83 tons of water per second, creating various streams of water taking many different forms. Rays of light from the fountain can be seen for a radius of 32 km.
Beaches
Many kilometres of sandy beaches are lapped by crystal clear waters bordering several hotels of the highest class. These hotels include the 7-star Burj Al Arab and the 6-star Burj Al Arab Jumeirah. On the coast, there are two well-known complexes, the Al Mamzar Park, and the Jumeirah Beach Park. Nearby is the water park Wild Wadi — the second largest water park in Dubai.
Hotels
In the Jumeirah beach area, there are fourteen 5-star hotels, not far from the Burj Al Arab. On the island “Palm Jumeirah” (the world”s largest artificial archipelago, established in the coastal waters of the Gulf), there are several new hotels, including the Atlantis and the Dubai Palm Hotel. It is here that you will find the most expensive room in the world, the largest aquarium in the country and a unique dolphin aquarium. The capacity of the tank is 10 million litres and the number of inhabitants exceeds 33 thousand species. For the most daring of visitors, there is a special attraction — a dive with sharks. At a water park, you can ride on a glass pipe among the sharks.
In Dubai, there are two hotels offering the opportunity to plunge into the peaceful atmosphere of the desert away from the city — Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa and Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa.
The amusement park “Dubailand” is still under construction, but a small part of it is now open to the public. These areas include the Butch Harmon School of Golf, Dubai Autodrome, “Dubai Outlet Mall” and “Dubai Sports City”.
Sport
The long history of Dubai won it the name of “sports capital of the East”. Opportunities for international competitions and meetings attract athletes from around the world. Especially popular is horse racing, golf, tennis, polo, rally and falconry. The most famous golf clubs — Emirates Golf Club in Jumeirah and Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club on the Gulf Creek — attract many international visitors. In addition, here you can learn exotic sports, such as skiing on the sand of the dessert or camel riding and racing.
Metro
Opened in 2009, Dubai Metro covers the entire city with its Red Line (52 km long) and Green Line (23.9 km long). In addition to the subway, the country has the Palm Jumeirah Monorail (only one in the Middle East), which connects the island of Palm Jumeirah to the mainland Dubai.
