Is there a financial crisis? What are the features of the current investment environment?
It is not easy to say whether a crisis is coming. Probably yes, but it is important to keep in mind that we are talking not only about one, but also about several financial markets. That’s the point. For example, when it comes to the so-called crisis in financial markets, people most often refer to stock indexes that represent only one segment of the stock market. But not all segments move together, which is an opportunity for investors. The stock market itself is divided into large, medium and small companies (Large cap, Medium cap, Small cap), which, in turn, have a characteristic and specific behavior in the event of a correction in a particular market. Separately, in a crisis, the debt markets, investments in precious metals, real estate, raw materials and work of art also have their own dynamics, and if this is known, you can ride the wave and avoid the undercurrents, which can be very dangerous in a crisis. The key point is: the markets of these types of assets very rarely have unidirectional movement, which means opportunities to profit from turbulence. To hedge capital at different economic stages in recent years, a strong emphasis has been placed on derivative products that are appropriate in response to the uncertainty of the market environment.
How are your products positioned in such an investment environment?
We work with investment models that are tested over time, and we have a very clear understanding of how these portfolios behave during market turbulence. We regularly conduct stress tests on these investment models. One of the tasks that our profession solves is precisely this – the creation of stress-resistant investment products in accordance with the latest trends in the industry. The investment models that we have are adapted on a monthly basis according to a number of economic indicators and driving forces in the financial markets (GDP, interest rate, unemployment).
